FEB. 24, 1926
The last ski tournament of the season will be held next Sunday, one-half mile below the Seas Branch School House. The Seas Branch, Round Prairie, Esofea and Westby Clubs will take part... The roads are in good shape and there will be no difficulty in getting to this jump...
Badax, Feb. 22 – This time of the year our valley roads seem to be the main traveled road to Viroqua from the neighboring country around. Therefore the creek is quite alive with traffic... The blind man and his wife gave a musical entertainment at Harmony school house last Thursday evening. Their songs and music seemed to be appreciated by those who were there to hear...

Springville, Feb. 23 – No little excitement was caused last Thursday afternoon when Arthur Ostrem’s team became unmanageable and ran away, finally piling up in a snow bank with very little damage...
Victory, February 23 – The LaCrosse bread wagon collided with a car belonging to Chester Stoda near Genoa. Stoda’s car was badly demolished...a coupe belonging to Adolph Fortney of West Prairie slewed out of the road near the Martin Mellem home and ran into a tree and damaged it badly. Fortunately, Mr. Fortney was unhurt.

SIDIE HOLLOW ROAD

I was pleased to see your article a couple of weeks since advocating the Sidie Hollow Road. Those of us on the Western section of the county know this road should be built. This winter it has furnished a means for about half of Vernon county to get to the county seat. It would be the most traveled road in or out of Viroqua if improved. In summer it would make a most delightful drive and in winter many times the only way to and from the county seat when the ridge roads are drifted in. The sheriff lately used this road to get to Chaseburg and Coon Valley...C.O. HELGESON.
It appears as of this writing as if every serviceable crop of the 1925 leaf tobacco for sale by the producer, be it sorting or stemming will be contracted for by the tobacco buyer this season...
The V.H.S. basket ball team went to Bangor Saturday evening and were badly defeated by that team. Score 18 to 4. Both teams had played the night before, and the game was slow and ragged, with the Bangor boys putting up the better game throughout.

The Ski Tournament of the Wild Cat, Esofea, Three Chimney and Westby Clubs was held at Esofea last Sunday. The event attracted considerable attention and about five hundred people were in attendance. Skiing is gaining in popularity each year in this locality.

The annual tournament of the Westby Snow Flake Ski Club, held at the new slide northwest of Westby today, was favored with a most ideal day and a large crowd took advantage of the fine weather to attend the event and enjoy the thrills offered. More than three thousand people were there. The slide was very steep and fast.
Redmound, February 6 – The men of this vicinity had a bee getting wood up for Annie Cole... Tommy Sheldon and Walter Tenney have almost completed the job of getting out logs for Mr. Dach. They have a fine lot of timber about ready for the saw.

Another of those delightful 25¢ suppers will be served by the ladies’ aid society at the Congregational church on Thursday, February 18.
The missing parts for the county snow plow are now here and the plow is in shape and ready for service. It is a Champion plow with a ten-foot blade, and weighs about a ton. The regulating of the blade is done from the driver’s seat in the truck. It is the intention of the county men to try out the machine in keeping the road open between Viroqua and Westby, when blocked by future storms. There is no money appropriated for snow removal, but the subject becomes more and more pressing and no doubt in a year or two the state will take action on keeping the principal trunk highways open.

WESTBY NEW SKI HILL
The new ski hill of the Snow Flake Ski Club of Westby, Wisconsin, has an elevation of 250 feet from the bottom of the hill to the top of the scaffold. (Actual Measurement).
The sliding and jumping distances measure 475 feet. Jumps of 170 feet have been made, and jumps of 190 to 200 feet are possible.
Comparing this slide and hill with the GREAT DULUTH slide, we have 40 feet more elevation and 60 feet of sliding and jumping distance. Westby is looking forward to some record jumps on February 10, 1926, when it stages the Fourth Annual Ski Tournament.
The American Express Co. at Viroqua will pay $30 reward for the return, alive, of the silver black fox which escaped from their office on the night of January 27. Finder get in touch with Kenneth Mills, Local Agent.

Tuesday, February 2nd, was a gloomy day in the locality, and if his Royal Highness, Mr. Groundhog did come out to take a sniff of the weather, he observed no shadow. We have forgotten whether this is supposed to mean that we are or are not going to have six more weeks of winter... But, it is useful, perhaps, in furnishing a topic of conversation, and serves to remind us that the backbone of Old Winter is broken and that Smiling Spring is just around the corner...
Bud, February 1 – English services were held at the Zion Church on Sunday... The White Pigeon school has been closed the past few days on account of the illness of the teacher... During the severe wind last Wednesday night the Nottingham School house was destroyed by fire...
